Note:
Dad's military service has been confirmed to be from September 18, 1940 to July 22, 1941. He was a Corporal and also was a feather weight boxer at Fort Dix, NJ. The Discharge Certificate for the Civilian Conservation Corps states that Donald enrolled November 14, 1935 at Camp Dix, NJ and served until April 2, 1936. Again he enrolled in the CCC on January 7, 1938 until February 21, 1938 in Woodbine, NJ.
The first term was served doing park improvement at Camp Twanoh, Co 294, Belfair, Washington and the second term doing forestry work at Camp S-80, Woodbine, NJ. September 16, 1940, Donald enlisted in the US Army at Fort Dix, NJ in Co l, 114th Infantry and served until July 22, 1941.We have many pictures of time spent in Washington and NJ camps and a few photos of Dad in the Army. V Woodruf from Woodruff Sign Service and Marvin Rempfer of Sunset Beach wrote letters of recommendation for employment for Dad. Both state that he was a dependable, loyal and trustworthy worker and that they would hire him if there were an opening. Donald married Lois Peterson in July 1942 and joined Owens-Illinois Bridgeton plant in 1943 and remained there until 1970 when he was forced by illness to retire at age 52.
