    • Joseph CODDINGTON 124,236,238
      Born: 26 Feb 1756 236,238,472
Marriage (1): Elizabeth JONES on 11 Apr 1781 in Goshen, Orange Co., New York, USA 1981,1982,1983
Marriage (2): Eunice MOTT on 23 Feb 1786 in Goshen, Orange Co., New York, USA 124,1981,2886
      Died: After 1843 124
      General Notes:
Joseph served in the New York State Militia during the Revolutionary War.
The 1820 census lists Joseph, Henry, Samuel, and Sarah Coddington (widow) in the townships of Lake and Union in Logan Co., Ohio. Only this known Joseph Coddington had sons named Henry and Samuel with correct age ranges as indicated by the census. However, many details of the enumerations do not match known facts, and Sarah Coddington (widow) is completely unexplained.
Nevertheless, this migration from (and return to) New York seems likely because Joseph married both his wives in the Town of Goshen in Orange Co., New York. Also in that town lived a family named Krouskop, and Joseph and a John Krouskop served as jurors together. George Krouskop Jr. married Sarah, possibly Covington/Corrington. George Jr. was apparently a storekeeper, and a Joseph Coddington had credit with him. In about 1813, the Krouskops did remove to Logan Co. Ohio., where that family and Joseph Coddington are adjacent on the 1820 census. On the 1800 Colchester, Delaware Co. census a Joseph Coddington is adjacent to George and John Krouskop.
Joseph and William Coddington appear on the list of the poll book for an election in Lake Twp, in 1818. Joseph had two sons named William, the first born abt 1776 by a previous wife, and the second in 1795, thus more likely to have accompanied Joseph to Ohio, but he is not a head of household in Logan Co. on the 1820 census.
In addition, Joseph and William Coddington also voted in Jefferson Twp. on 14 Mar 1818.
On the whole, it seems possible that Joseph and his sons Henry, William, and Samuel moved briefly to Ohio between 1813 and 1830 (no Coddingtons in Logan Co. in 1830).
In the "History of Delaware County" W. W. Munsell says, "At the first election in the town, then Colchester, there were but two Democratic voters -- Edward Doyle and one Joseph Coddington, who had two sons, Thomas and William." 448,2887,2888,2889
